Welcome to Broadband.sd.gov!

The South Dakota Bureau of Information and Telecommunications (BIT) has applied for and received a federal grant to collect information on the availability and use of broadband services in South Dakota under the National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s (NTIA) State Broadband Data and Development Program.

The term broadband commonly refers to high-speed Internet
access that is always on and faster than dial-up access.

This website provides a way for us to share information and new developments about this project, as well as a way to allow all South Dakotan’s various “hands on” opportunities to be involved. The input from our citizens is critical (and very appreciated) to the success of this broadband initiative.

As part of the project we will also develop, execute and maintain a sustainable broadband adoption strategy and plan for innovative projects that promote broadband demand. Initiatives will focus on providing broadband education, awareness, training, access, equipment and support, particularly among vulnerable population groups where broadband technology has traditionally been underutilized.

Like electricity a century ago, broadband is a
foundation for economic growth, job creation,
global competitiveness and a better way of life.
